Chesapeake Bay waterman David Laird scrapes for soft crabs aboard Scotty Boy near his home in Ewell on Smith Island, MD. The boat was built on the island in 1937 and was operated by his father until Laird began crabbing with it in 1958. It's the only boat the 64-year-old waterman has ever used to catch the Chesapeake Bay delicacies.
